THE YOUTH PEACE INITIATIVE (YPI) IS…

…a growing network of socially and environmentally minded young people who are standing up to do something to bring about peace and social justice for the whole planet.

Through the internet and face-to-face topical forums, YPI provides online and offline spaces for young people to be recognised and supported for their efforts in promoting peace and social justice.

YPI brings together high school and early tertiary-aged youth from diverse backgrounds and locations who are leading their own projects in a wide variety of peace and justice-related fields, including:

  • Anti-Violence & Anti-Bullying
  • Mediation & Conflict Management
  • Community Development
  • Human Rights & Social Justice
  • Poverty Alleviation
  • Environmental Sustainability

…among others.

Projects vary in setting from the local school, TAFE, or community level, all the way to the international and global level.

Youth groups who submit projects to the YPI Projects Gallery are offered publicity and individualised support in the strategic planning and development of their peace projects. Leaders and key participants in particularly outstanding peace projects are also given special recognition each year by the Sydney Peace Foundation, including being awarded with the Youth Peacemaker’s Award. Award recipients have the opportunity to meet with the Sydney Peace Prize Winner for that year in person.
