PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT…

Quick Facts:
1. By 2025, nearly 70% of the world’s population – or 5.3 billion people – will suffer from water shortages.
2. Over 50% of the world’s wetlands have been lost in the last 100 years.
3. Only about 10% of the energy used by a light bulb creates light; the other 90% only creates heat.

We owe our existence to the earth and we rely on it for our continued survival and yet we continue to exploit its resources, destroy its diverse ecosystems, and pollute its air, water, and soil. We continue to ignore the fact that the earth is wounded and out of balance. We continue to act as though we do not already know that global warming is a reality. Only by a concentrated effort involving individuals, civil society, transnational corporations, and government leaders will we be able to recognise and begin to reverse the many processes and practices of environmental destruction that have become part of human habit in its habitation on earth.
