Start Your Own Project
Interested in starting a “Peace Project”? Follow the steps below to help you get going…
1. BROWSE
Browse the YPI Projects Gallery to see what other young people in Australia are doing.
If a particular project interests you, get in contact with that group and find out more – you might even be able to join forces! To check out what kinds of peace projects young people in other countries are getting into, go to: Taking It Global or PeaceJam’s Global Call to Action.
2. DECIDE
Decide on a peace-related cause that you want to support.
A “Peace Project” might be anything from a local theatre group that performs plays about human rights, to a worldwide internet-based anti-nuclear weapons campaign. You might find a way to combat racism and bullying in your school or community, or you might get involved in a global movement to provide clean drinking water to people living in extreme poverty. Consider some of these broad issue areas, and checkout in more detail the projects that relate to the ones that interest you:
- Celebrating Unity in Diversity
- Ending War, Transforming Conflict
- Eradicating Poverty & Disease
- Overcoming Hatred & Violence
- Promoting Human Rights & Justice
- Protecting the Environment
- Supporting Marginalised Groups
3. GET ADVICE
Get advice from friends, teachers from your school, or youth workers at your community centre to develop your idea.
You should also send an email to YPI, telling us about your idea.
We’ll get back to you with advice and suggestions for organisations in your area and around Australia that can offer help, support, or even provide possible funding for your project. CLICK HERE TO SEND AN EMAIL TO YPI NOW…
5. SUBMIT
Submit a Profile of your project to be featured on the YPI Peace Projects Gallery.
It can be a really helpful process to have to clearly describe your project and the plans you have to develop it. If your project is well developed and already underway, YPI can help you with fundraising and media promotion. You and others in your group may also be elligible for a Sydney Peace Foundation Young Peacemaker Award.
