Learn More About Peace & Conflict, Violence & Justice…

Education about peace, like all education, goes beyond any one course or school or institution. We are all learners for life, and teachers are all around us every day, whether they identify themselves that way or not.

Maybe university’s not your thing? You need to find the approach to learning about peace that best suits you. This might be through surfing the web (there is a LOT of information online, a small amount of which you can find on this website), it might be through seeking out and learning from people who challenge your view of the world, or it might be through taking a workshop or short course on mediation and conflict resolution. Here are a few options to consider:

Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP)

The Change Agency Education & Training Inst.

…Of course it may be that you do want to study peace in a more academic setting.

In universities, the study of peace is usually treated as interdisciplinary, incorporating studies of political science, law, international studies, development studies, sociology, anthropology, social work, psychology, history, and even biology. For this reason, uni students often take “Peace & Conflict Studies” courses as electives to compliment an undergraduate degree in one of these areas, or they may pursue a Masters or PhD in a specialised area of Peace Studies after graduating and working for a while.

Australian universities offering undergraduate and/or graduate programs or courses in Peace & Conflict Studies and related fields include:

The University of Sydney

The University of Newcastle
